The American Traditions Vocal Competition seeks to celebrate and preserve all styles of classic American music. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization promotes these songs by producing an annual vocal competition in Savannah, Georgia, that awards over $35,000 in cash prizes. As part of community-driven service and initiative, the organization provides musical education, exposure and performances for Savannah locals of all ages.
In 1989, "Savannah Onstage" was born out of the artistic community of Savannah’s love for music. A vibrant event, showcasing competition winners and genres of music from around the world, "Savannah Onstage" became the forerunner to the renowned Savannah Music Festival.
The very first American Traditions Vocal Competition took place in 1994, when gospel singer Ernestine Dillard took home the Gold Medal after a 33-year career as a nurse. Since then, incredible judges and rising vocal talent have visited Savannah, year after year, as the competition has grown. In 2011, the organization became an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and has continued to attract new talent to share in the celebration of great American music.
Today, the American Traditions Vocal Competition is not only Savannah's premiere professional vocal competition, but it stands alone as a unique vocal competition for highly skilled and diverse singing performers. With its rich history and vibrant cultural life, Savannah – known to all as Georgia’s “Hostess City” – is the perfect home for this exciting musical celebration. Please join us for our 25th year of classic American song.
